Oh my Annelie and Amy I am missing you both.  You make me laugh, we used to cry, and just cant wait to ride again with you.  I watched the Journey of Hope video and then I put on the USA breast Cancer ride of Amazon Heart 2005 in California..... You have been on the 2009 versiions USA, Australia) what great ladies, friends, fellow survivors I have been blessed to meet and ride with.  God bless our Rides and Harley Davidsons all over the world!  xoxoxo Diane

My Darlings, Amy and Annelie, I hope this ride is as exciting, exhilarating and eventful as our Amazon Heart adventure.  I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed meeting both of you.  Your joy and sense of fun was infectuous.  Bless you both for all of the positive things you are doing for cancer survivors. I truly hope that me meet up again someday, I know I have a little part of each of you with me always.  Enjoy the ride!

Hi Annalie & Amy, hope your ride is going well & the weather is kind!  It’s exactly 30 years since I first backpacked around South Africa - can’t wait to visit again!  Cheers, Kerrie

Liked the photo - hope there are lots more to come - sounds brilliant. Its very important to spread hope of living cos when you get the diagnosis it can seem like the whole world has stopped and that it doesn’t matter - because you won’t be there to share it with your lovely family and friends. I know I am very lucky to have had each day in the past 9 years and after the USA ride want to make sure i really think about three things - what I can do to support others, have some me time and not feel guilty, but most of all have some quality time with my family and friends. Love to you all. Julie X

We cannot believe your stamina and determintion Annelie. Jools would have loved to make it down to Cape Town from Namibiato see you all off, but alas it could not happen - she is now back here in a rather chilly UK.
Must have been great to arrive back in sunny SA and catch up with the family before your next moese trek!

Hi U 2 brave girls. Be save and enjoy. God bless.Norma
Some info for you to enjoy........

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica - where do they go?

Wonder no more!!!
It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life.
The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintaining a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.
If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into and buried.
The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

“Freeze a jolly good fellow.”

Oh girls, I do envy you!  Just remember, even if up ahead in the distance you see a shimmering light, do not stop for the night. Do not be tempted by the lots and lots of pretty boys or the pink Champagne on ice. If Don Henley and his buds were right, you can check in any time you like, but you can never leave. Hi Jeanine

Can you please contact me on my e-mail address: , because I do not know how else to contact you? We need to talk.

I believe the only forward will be to create as much publicity as possible. People must become aware of the fact that medical aids leave their clients in the lurch when they need them the most!
Also, please listen to 702/Cape Talk Sunday night at 7-30pm when Kate Turkington will interview me on her show “Believe it or Not”. PLEASE phone in to the show to discuss the Lapatinib issue.

Waiting to hear from you.
Keep your spirits high.  We WILL beat this disease.
Much love
Annelie

Hi. I read your article regarding the No money to pay for Lapatinib and would like to contact you to discuss this issue.  I am 34 years old and have had cancer for 10 years now.  I’ve reaced the end of the line and have used all the chemotherapies which is available and which Discovery will pay for. I’ve also had Herceptin. I found out about 2 wks ago that I’ve another 5 tumors. According to the oncologist the only chemo that will save my life is Lapatinib. But like you already now, its expensive and Discovery is not paying. Is there a way we can force take on the medical aid schemes to stop playing with other people’s life. Unfortunately I’n not as lucky as you, and can’t afford to buy the drug. My only hope is to try and do somthing and make a noise so medical aids will start to listen. Please can you contact me and let me know what progress you have made. I would really appreciate it, my life depends on it. I have fought so much and can’t just give up now because the medical aid don’t want to play along. Thanks

I met Annelie when we were both 14 and 15 years old. We went to school in the same bus. Both full of life’s expectancies. After school, we went our separate ways. Got married, had children, both with hectic careers. Then fate brought us back together again after 30 years. Both of us struck by the dreaded BEAST. We made contact after I heard about Journey of Hope, and got Annelie’s immediate attention. “Yes baby, count me in “she said, I WILL learn how to ride bike and go with you! The rest is history. Five long hard years many tears and many joys later we, have done two wonderful, unforgettable biking experiences together. Annelie is extremely humorous; she often makes me fold double with laughter, but believe me, she is side by side with me, to wipe a tear or share a fear. I treasure her friendship, and together we are already planning our next adventure. Watch this space………… thank you once again for the lovely messages of support and encouragement. Big hugs , Amy

Hi Annelie,
My boodskap vir jou is - seize the moment - live life to the fullest. Make every day a golden memory. Jy is ‘n awesome babe en ek salute jou.
wrt to Discovery - apparently it was Gazetted that if you had cancer treatment that did not work the first time, the Med Aid have to pay for the follow-up treatment. Probeer uitvind.

What an amazing blog this is - you really captured the spirit of our ride.
Thank you again to you and Amy for giving up part of your ride for me - I was so thankful to be able to ride other people’s bikes and not have to spend the rest of the journey in the van after my bike was towed.  Bless you both for your compassion and generosity.
I rejoice in your good scan result - it is great news.
Much love, Wendy

Darling Annelie

I have read so many notes to you both – I echo every sentiment.  What a bansella to have the Roo’s!! Hope the rain has stopped.
Spoke to Paulie at length yesterday, as Reina had told me he’d been in hospital with his slipped disk.  Ian is up here to keep an eye on him and then there’s your lovely little family reunion on your return.  Am dying to see all your pic’s and hear first-hand news.  Paulie also says this trip is so much more fun than the last as you don’t have the little talks, etc at each destination.  If it were me it would be into the pubs and chatting up the locals!
Will call you later next week.  Thrilled that you’re having such a ball.  Just hope your health is OK?!

All Love

Hiya Annelie - I’ve been looking for pics of you on both blogs but you are very good at ducking the cameras !  But you need to be up there so everyone can see what you are doing.  It looks amazing!  Hope your toes are dry after the floods and that they have been warm enough in the Blue Mountains.  Can you send me a phone number to ring you at the end?  Wish I could have come along for the ride !!
Go girl!!

The country-side is spectacular. We have seen so many kangaroo’s, what a bonus! I love riding this huge big machine, I am seriously considering doing this full-time! oh-yeah! !
